GASP! IT'S MIDSEASON FINALE TIME....
ALREADY!
Ugh. I really can't believe it's the midseason finale already. It is a little earlier than usual, being episode 8. Most often it's episode 9, or even 10. But it will mean a nice full back end of the season!
But still....
THEN
Lucifer shot through again, killing Vince Vincente in the process
Sam lost an idol
Crowley drove Cas crazy
Dean looked like this
Yup,
NOW
Hmmm.... Did the show have a crystal ball or something this season!
So when we last saw Lucifer, he was discovering social media and how easy it is these days to tap into the masses and influence people. Where would be the next best place to maximise his influence, huh?
“Lotus”
THE CHASE CONTINUES – Lucifer’s search for power and influence in a vessel lands him in the White House. The President of The United States (guest star David Chisum) unknowingly makes a deal with the devil, leading Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles), Castiel (Misha Collins), Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard) and Rowena (guest star Ruth Connell) to band together to fight the Dark Lord. Directed by Phil Sgriccia the episode was written by Eugenie Ross-Leming and Brad Buckner (1208).
Look at all that cast! Everyone is in this episode! It's always fun when the gang gets together! We haven't seen Rowena for a while, and as Crowley said that she wouldn't show up until they had Lucifer in their grip, one assumes they either get him, or are close enough to it that she's okay with joining the fight!
And it looks like Team Free Wheel ride again!
Dean should show this to Mary! |
Okay let's check out the promo!
Sam and Dean grabbing each other and ducking for cover, tho. The brothers are seriously killing me.
Ooooo! Hello! I fell asleep! The thing with falling asleep while writing your preview...(seriously, I fell asleep), when you wake up the next morning...laptop precariously balanced on the edge of the bed...the sneak peek has dropped! In fact the CW tweet woke me up! The downside...no waiting gif this week...you're disappointed, I know.
Here is the sneak peek!
Cas and Crowley though (*casual reminder that Crowley has been a complete bastard over the years, never gunna stop reminding the boys of that). They are the best together. Just such an odd couple, buddy cop duo. Agent Zappa! Crowley's badge! It's pretty funny. Sam and Dean's shear exasperation, that's probably my favourite thing. (Also Jared at the end telling us to watch more...I always hang around for Jared).
I do love Crowley, he's really awesome with his sass and purposeful annoyingness, but like I said in my write up of last week's episode, I'm never going to not feel a tiny bit weary of him being part of the gang...even if he's really still on the outside.
But it's always been the devil you know. And this devil the boys know real well. He is definitely handy - and that's why he's around. For him, of course I think he likes the Winchesters and even Cas a lot more than he would ever, ever admit to anyone, including himself. I think they're the only fun in his life - and look at him, he is most certainly having fun! His position ebbs and flows too - he's been in the fold, then out and on the Winchester potential chopping block, then back in again. I'm sure at some point he'll be back on their bad side.
I guess Crowley is another tricky story plot that the writers have to try and work with. Like Cas and his powers, and how he's either sent him off on his own mission, or powered down so he's not the get out of free card in the Winchester's pocket, Crowley's power and evilness needs to be put on the back burner, or we'd all get bored. If he's going to be in the story, he can't always be the antagonist, because frankly, the boys often have bigger fish to fry, and Crowley can't always be the focus of all evil - that would get tiresome. So he has to be an ally....usually begrudgingly. Nowadays though, with everything else kind of gone to shit in his world, I think this is really all that gets him up in the morning!
Part of the fun of Crowley is knowing that you never really know with him, it's knowing that he might snap his fingers and zap himself out of a situation at the drop of a hat. You never know just how much he's invested, how much he will put on the line. The only thing you know for sure is that if he's involved, there is definitely a level of self serving - because he's not going to be there unless it ultimately helps him in someway.
I've been thinking a lot about Crowley lately! I wonder where we'll end up going with him...like in the end.... (SHUT UP AMY!)
It makes a tonne of sense for Lucifer to go for big vessels. 1. I bet he can hook into them quite easily, ego attracts ego, more attracts wanting more. 2. Why not go for the people who can deliver the biggest bang for your possession buck? Last time, he was all, destiny, I just gotta start the Apocalypse, fight my bro...but this time, he just wants to cause the most mayhem. What better way than in the vessel of someone who can get him access to the most potential victims. Lucifer's never been dumb...
In a (pretty spoilery) article on EW, EPs Andrew Dabb and Bob Singer preview the ep and talk about Lucifer trading up, or as Crowley put in, going blue chip "“He wants adulation. He wants to be loved”, geeze, what's wrong with all these evil buggers just wanting to be loved!?
Um no not really - but we do anyway |
This and the Hitler episode from earlier in the season though... It really feels like the writers knew where there weirdness of the world was going! It's all pretty on point. Do they actually practice those spells that they write about? Because it sure feels like they knew something back at the beginning half of the year when these episodes would have been planned out! Lucifer as the POTUS... um...is this Supernatural the new reality show?
So this is it folks! The half way mark (well not really, but kinda). Get ready for a cliffhanger. Get ready to hold on to your feels, just in case! Then get ready for a....
6 WEEK BREAK!
Enjoy the episode everyone!
