Here's more on Demon Dean from Jensen, via Vlada Gelman at TV|LINE
TVLINE | Going into Season 10, what surprised you about Dean’s journey in the upcoming episodes?
Well, we have a slightly different version of Dean. A little bit of time has passed [at the start of Season 10], and he is a demon version of himself, out running amok with Crowley. It’s interesting because, over the past nine years, Dean has always been kind of a constant. Sam has really been the one that’s been possessed or [had] the demon blood or [been] soulless. There’s been a lot of different variations on the character of Sam, but Dean’s always been the steady, the constant. So to have that now change, and Dean is now an alternate version of himself, is exciting. It’s challenging, and it adds a unique element to the beginning of the season that we haven’t seen before.

TVLINE | What was the most challenging aspect of trying to incorporate a demon into Dean while still keeping him Dean?
Just that. [Laughs] Exactly what you said. That was the challenging aspect. It’s not like a demon that overtook Dean’s meat suit. This is the same guy with a twisted soul. So I wanted to keep Dean alive in there, but I had to make an exaggerated version of him, and that was challenging. This is a character that I’ve played for nine years. To tailor that into something different, it’s hard not to fall back into your same routine.

TVLINE | Did this storyline make you feel like you were going to the new season reinvigorated?T
Oh, I was super excited when I read the season finale last season. “Oh, sweet! We haven’t done this before.” I was excited to see where we were going to pick up, where he was going to go, how bad he was going to be. It’s fun because he ends up being too much for Crowley to handle, so to speak.

TVLINE | What qualities does being a demon bring out in Dean? Does it magnify any of the aspects of him that we’ve seen already?
Oh, it’s like an ultra version of a womanizing party animal. He’s out partying in Vegas with the King of Hell, he’s got backstage passes and he doesn’t give a sh-t about anything. That’s essentially what we’re going to see.

TVLINE | What effect does that have on his relationship with Sam?
Sam can’t find him because he doesn’t want to be found. Because [Dean is] having fun and he knows that if Sam finds him, he’s going to do his best to reverse the demon in him. But he’s like, “I’ve got the golden ticket.” This might be a little heavy, but it made me think about heroin addicts. To them, they found the magic key. They found the recipe to happiness. People are like, “You can’t do this. This is going to ruin your life,” and they’re like, “Screw you! This makes me feel amazing. I’m going to do this. You’re the one that’s an idiot. This is the best stuff ever.” And… everyone else is watching this steady decline of this person. That’s kind of demon Dean.

TVLINE | So it’s safe to say that when Dean wakes up and realizes what he is, he embraces it? Or is it more, off the bat, he’s a little bit conflicted and then eventually he starts to enjoy it?
Oh, no, he embraces it very quickly. There’s no inner struggle. Because he’s not just a demon, he’s a demon with the Mark of Cain, which makes him like über demon. So there’s so much evil inside him, there’s so much devil inside him, that the practical Dean is smothered.

TVLINE | You have a big episode coming up, the 200th. [Executive producer] Jeremy [Carver] said some music is involved. Are you going to sing in the episode?
I have not read the 200th episode. I read [Episodes] 1, 2 and 3 because 3 was the one I was directing, and that was enough for my brain to process.

Yeah, but Dean can’t sing. [Laughs]
Yeah, but Dean can’t sing. [Laughs]
TVLINE | I guess, but it’s meta. So it could be Jensen singing. It could be like the sixth season episode “The French Mistake.”
It could be. This is true. It could be. You never know with this show.
It could be. This is true. It could be. You never know with this show.
TVLINE | Tell me a little bit about the episode you’re directing. Did they throw anything new at you?
Yeah, demon Dean. I had to introduce a new character. We shot this episode first so that I could prep without having to work on another episode. It’ll air third, but it’s the first time that I had to play demon Dean. So that was a bit of a curveball, trying to direct and introduce a new character, a new version of Dean that we’ve never seen before. That was a big challenge to grapple with.

Here's another great interview with Jensen!
Jensen Ackles is going behind the camera once again to direct a Season 10 episode of "Supernatural," and according to him, the episode turned out better than he hoped it could.
"I just wrapped episode 1 which I directed, but it's not the season premiere. It will air third," Ackles tells Zap2it. "But it was the first one that we shot, since they did me a very nice favor in moving the episode I'm directing to be filmed first so that I could prep without actually having to act in another episode. Otherwise I would have had to be working on episode 2 as an actor, trying to prep for episode 3 as a director and that would be very, very difficult."
Ackles is very thankful to the cast and crew for switching up the schedule just to accommodate him. "They bumped mine up to the front of the list to allow me to come back from the hiatus, do the prep, do the shoot, and we're starting our season premiere today," Ackles says. "They kindly wrote Jared [Padalecki] and I out of the first day so we could come and spend the day with you [at the 2014 Summer TV Press Tour]."
After nine years, Ackles says the best way to prep for a new season -- and to direct the first episode back -- is to go back and re-watch some early episodes.
"I went back all the way to the pilot and started picking off some episodes from Season 1, Season 2, some of the big arc episodes, the ones that really moved the mythology and the story along, and I wanted to get fired up again," Ackles says. "It inspires me to go back and see how far we've come and what we did back then. I remember calling Jared after I watched the pilot again, and he hadn't even come up to Vancouver yet since he was still on his hiatus, and I'm like, 'Hey man, I watched the pilot last night, and it still holds up! Good job man, I'm just calling to pat you on the back.' He was like, 'Aw, thanks!' And then I was like, 'Now get your a** up here and let's shoot.'"
Ackles credits his success as a director to mentors like "Supernatural" directors Bob Singer and Kim Manners. "They have been an amazing mentors to me," Ackles says. "It's not in like a certain style or way, it's really just in the small little subtleties. Kim used to always preach that the scene is in the nuances. You may not see it always right there on the page but it's the stuff that's between the lines that really make a scene come to life. I try to find those moments as an actor and a director."
He continues, "Bob has the same sort of advice when it comes to that stuff, and he also gives me really great technical advice. 'Drop back, use long lenses, use your focus, use your transitions to your advantage.' That was film school 101 for me and I couldn't have asked for better teachers."
Like his new role offscreen, Ackles is also about to tackle a new onscreen: Playing a demon.
"I've only had one episode to do it so far, and it was the one I was directing so my mind was a little scattered," Ackles admits. "Luckily I was over-prepared as a director so I was able to concentrate on the performance of Demon Dean. It was fun for this episode, but the next two episodes I believe are going to be even more entertaining. Like devil-may-care, I would say that it's ramped up to a very high, truly devil-may-care, so we'll see how that plays out. Hopefully it comes across right."
Something else that's new in Season 10? Having both Misha Collins (Castiel) and Mark Sheppard (Crowley) as series regulars.
"It's simply the beginning of the end," Ackles deadpans, before laughing. "No, [Mark's] on as a contract player now, we've got Misha fully contracted now, and I couldn't be more excited. Personally, I think it's something we could have done a couple years ago because I think they're integral to the story and to the boys moving forward, and it definitely is going to make for some interesting storylines and arcs this year, having them both available to us full-time. We're not going to have to share Mark with another series or having to share Misha with something else, so the fact that they're both on full-time is welcome to us."
And Ackles couldn't let the interview end without thanking all the "Supernatural" fans for helping them get to Season 10. "Thanks for keeping us in the game for 10 years, to all our fans and everybody," Ackles says. "It is truly a job that we love and cherish. It's a show we love to work on and it's a story that we still love to tell. So deep thanks from the bottom of our hearts."

Here are two interviews with Jeremy Carvier where he actually tells us spoilery stuff!
With "Supernatural" Season 10 fast approaching -- but not fast enough, let's be honest -- Zap2it got the chance to sit down with executive producer Jeremy Carver after the "Supernatural" panel at the 2014 Summer TV Press Tour on Friday (July 18) to try and squeeze all the scoop we could get out of him about Demon Dean, Sam's hunt for his "missing" brother, Castiel, Crowley, and much, much more.
Thankfully, Carver was game to talk about all things Season 10, including the upcoming 200th episode. Check out our full Q&A with the "Supernatural" boss below:
Zap2it: During the "Supernatural" panel earlier, you made a comment about how Demon Dean is not going to be quite what we expect him to be. Can you elaborate on that a little more?Jeremy Carver: This is the first time that we're going to see Dean as a demon. It's not a demon possessing Dean, it's still Dean's soul, but just twisted. In that way, every decision made is Dean's. So as dark or as evil or whatnot that Demon Dean might be or what you might expect him to be, there's still Dean there. There's a self-awareness. Let me put it this way: Dean is not unaware of the thing that he's become.
Where will we pick up when Season 10 premieres? Is there going to be a time jump or will it begin immediately after the Season 9 finale ended? There will be a slight time jump of about four to six months. It's enough for Dean to start to settle into being demon. It's enough for Sam to cause some real problems in his search for Dean. By problems, I mean that he's hellbent on finding his brother, and he doesn't know what his brother has become. He will go to such great depths to find his brother that when they finally do cross paths, it's going to be a real question of which brother is the true monster?
So we aren't going to miss the moment that Sam finds out that Dean is a demon? That won't happen in the months we're going to skip? You are not going to miss that moment. That did not happen offscreen, while we were on hiatus. I promise, you will be there when that happens. [laughs]
Good to hear! What can you tell me about this mysterious other character that is also on the hunt for Dean in addition to Sam hunting his brother?Well, I can tell you that he's kind of cool and his name is Cole. He is someone from Dean's past who is looking for Dean for reasons totally unrelated to what's going on with the demon/Mark of Cain story. He's a guy that has a terrific amount of hunting skills but he's not a hunter in our sense of the word. He has no idea that the monster world exists so imagine his surprise when he comes across the man he's been hunting and he is something other than human. He's a pretty cool character.
Have you cast that character yet?Yes, but we're not announcing it yet.
How is Demon Dean's new supernatural status going to affect his growing relationship with Crowley?Where we left off, Crowley was very much in the mind that these two would basically go on one long pub crawl. That's where Crowley was emotionally, but Dean has different ideas. That's pretty much where we'll pick up. I think it will become very clear that Crowley has certain designs for Dean and one of the central conflicts of the season is, is he going to take up the offer that Crowley has made him? Their relationship will be tested in the early episodes of the season.
This is the first time both Misha Collins (Castiel) and Mark Sheppard (Crowley) have been series regulars at the same time, so it that going to change the show in any way?I think it will change it for the good. We've got them each for a few more episodes than we have before so now we have the opportunity to give them a few more stories of their own. The show has always orbited around Sam and Dean but one of the secrets of our show is that the supporting characters generally bounce around whatever the brothers are doing. But Misha and Mark have both come into their own in ways that we saw last year that really support standalone stories of their own. So we'll be seeing some more of that coming up.
When we last saw Castiel, he was up in heaven with a fading grace, and Metatron was in jail, so what can you tell me about the situation in heaven when we come back for Season 10?The situation in heaven is relatively stable. And the situation in hell is also relatively stable. I think that's going to give a false sense of calm to, certainly, Sam and Dean, as well as some of our other players. So the mythology this year will sneak up on you a little bit more than it has in previous years. We're building up the season-long mythology right from the jump but we don't necessarily come right out and announce it like we have in seasons past, like how Season 8 was about the tablets. It's a bit of a slower build this year. I think that potentially will give it a bigger impact.
Interesting. So is Cas still up in Heaven even though things are, as you said, "relatively stable?"No. Castiel is actually going to be on Earth at the start of the season, and he's still dealing with his stolen grace that's fading. He's got to try and figure out a way to stay alive that doesn't involve stealing another angel's grace. That's where we'll find him at the beginning.
I loved the moment in the Season 9 finale when Dean told Sam, "I'm proud of us," and the brothers finally got back to a good place with each other after a season of fighting and uncomfortable friction. Are we going to be back in square one now that Dean's a demon, or is there a chance for that goodwill to carry over regardless of Dean being a demon? No. Absolutely, everything that happened at the end of Season 9 will carry over into Sam's relentless pursuit of his brother and to save his brother, as opposed to Season 8 when he didn't even look for him, you know? It's all built off that moment in the Season 9 finale, that reconciliation that happened. We're going back to the basics. There's always some friction among the brothers but I would say the relationship is in a good place.
I can't tell you how relieved I am to hear that. This season is also going to feature the milestone of reaching 200 episodes, which is amazing. What are you most excited for fans to see from the 200th episode? What I'm most excited for fans to see, I can't say yet. That's a tricky question. [laughs] That's a good question. It's going to be meta, and there will be songs. I'm most excited for the fans to hopefully embrace how it's something of a thank you and love letter, in the self-loathing, sarcastic, "Supernatural" way that we approach everything like the 200th episode. Have fun with that one! [laughs]

TVLINE | You’ve had instances where the boys were possessed, but now Dean’s fully a demon. What made you decided now was the time to pull the trigger and go down that avenue?
Dean being a demon here ties into a deeper mythology in the show, that being the Mark of Cain and Cain. That’s really one of the places we started to get the idea. The show has made a point of saying how rooted these brothers are in, frankly, the mythology of the world, and to find another anchor that was literally around at the beginning of time made us feel like… It wasn’t so much the spectacular effect or whatever of Dean being a demon. It’s more just rooting him in something more final, something that will not necessarily totally go away even when/if he’s converted back from demonism.

TVLINE | Dean as a demon, how is that different from Dean just being possessed by a demon temporarily? What is he like?
Dean is not possessed by anything. It’s his own soul that’s been twisted into a demon soul, so this demon is not anyone other than Dean. So every thought, every action, that’s Dean, as opposed to some other demon possessing him. So while he’s a demon, that causes some complication of thought in him in that, “This is really me doing it.” It also motivates a certain bravado. “Yeah, this is me doing and owning it!” There’s a real period for Dean of deciding how dark he’s going to be and what kind of demon he’s going to be, because he can’t blame it on anyone else but himself. And then afterwards is when it will have the most effect on him because itwas him. It was his actions that led him to becoming a demon. He pushed it with the Mark. He pushed Sammy away at the end of last season. He said, “I can do this by myself.” So there’s a certain consequence to all this that is almost more interesting to us than the actual demon part.

TVLINE | Does it intensify some of his bad qualities? He’s not a bad person, but he has qualities like all of us that we’re not proud of.
Yes. I don’t think demon Dean is the nicest fellow around the block. And that’s by design. He’s not intended to be a particularly nice guy and that’s one of the things he struggles with. He knows how he’s acting. Sometimes, he’ll fight against that in odd ways. That’s the real conflict that’s within him right now when he’s a demon. Because it is him. He’s not unaware of what he’s doing. And although his soul is twisted, he is not without a certain amount of self-examination.

TVLINE | What does that mean for his relationship with Sam?
Their relationship very much ended on an up note last year. So as a sort of answer to the beginning of Season 8, when Sam actively didn’t look for his brother, Sam this year is really looking for his brother but doesn’t have any idea of what happened to him when the season starts. Sam is so invested in finding his brother that it leads him to do some questionable things that will make him and, certainly, the audience wonder which one of these guys is the truemonster.

TVLINE | So are you picking up right where you left off, or is there a bit of a time jump?
No, there’s a bit of a time jump. Not too long, just enough for Dean to have made some waves as a demon.

TVLINE | Mark Sheppard is now a series regular, so how does Crowley fit into the picture and what is his role in Dean’s new life?
That’s very much a topic of where we start the show. Crowley, as we see at the end of Season 9, is very excited about the idea of essentially howling at the moon with his new buddy Dean. We’ll see in Episode 1 that Crowley has slightly different designs to get that and will be proposing a business relationship, which Dean may or may not accept. That’s the subject of the first run of episodes — what is their relationship going to be?

TVLINE | And what can you say about Castiel’s story? Is he still in Heaven trying to manage things?
No. When we pick up Castiel, he will be on Earth. He will be alone for reasons that are explained, but not alone for too long, and he will be very much in a similar place where we last saw him in that he still has the stolen grace, still fading. He’s still in danger of death. The moral question for Castiel is, “How do I stay alive? How do I not be a burden on others [like] Sam, who’s got his own problems? How do I get grace to live without taking another angel’s grace?” So he’s in a bit of a quandary.

Here is a fantastic - and spoilery, so be careful - interview by TV Fanatic with Jared, where he talks Sam's search for Dean, his excitment for season and his love of his fans. Really GREAT and really long interview!
TV Fanatic: At the start of the news season, are we seeing a different Sam? In some ways we’re finding him in a different place we haven’t seen him before, which is pretty good for season 10.
Jared Padalecki: Dean is certainly the more different of the two but Sam’s almost different in that he’s not finally soulless or angel, so we get to see the Sam that the fans love and that I love. The Sam that wants to find his brother.
So, we start out a couple months after the finale. Sam went back to the room and Dean, his dead brother who was in the room in a locked bunker, was gone. Since Sam didn’t see the episode he didn’t realize that Crowley took him. So Sam is now like ‘what the f**k? I’ve got to find my brother! What just happened?’ He is the Sam I love, which is the Sam on the hunt to find his brother. He knows something’s wrong. He has his suspicions. That’s the Sam we start out.
TVF: Do you think it’s taking us back to the demon hunter element of the show?
JP: Absolutely. That is a big part of it. It’s almost a reset or a restart. It’s not a complete restart because dealing with a demon brother but we do see them kind of go back to what they set out to do, which is nice. I love that our writers and our fandom have such a great symbiotic relationship where the writers are able to recreate and restart and the fans allow the writers and the actors and forgive and remain loyal and committed. They say, “Cool, guys. If you all are going to go back to where we were, great. Let’s see where this road takes us.”
TVF: I’m guessing Sam and Dean are going to be apart for a while…?
JP: They’re going to be apart for more than a few episodes. Then I think we’ll also see…because episode one starts a couple months after the finale, I imagine we’ll have some flashbacks, which I really like. I loved it with Soulless Sam, we flashed back to him in the bars or whenever. I love telling stories that way. That’s something that I always privately felt we didn’t do enough of in the first four or five seasons. I felt we were great in the moment and creating the show.
What I love about books is books can refer to somebody’s past or they can refer to somebody’s emotions or memories. It’s difficult for a TV show or movie to do that outside of literally going back and showing something happened that forces this guy to have this memory or this feeling or this hurt in the past. I think we’re going to see some flashbacks explaining more, even if the boys get together in episode three or four or five or whenever they do it. I think we’ll still see bits and pieces of what happened to Dean and what happened to Sam. I know we see some flashbacks in episode three of Sam.
Another fantastic Jared interview with some more info on the 200th ep! Jared is not shy of talking spoilery stuff!
Zap2it: Where do we find Sam at the beginning of Season 10?Jared Padalecki: With his head up his a**. [laughs] No. When Sam went down to summon Crowley to get his brother back at the end of Season 9, he returned to Dean's room to find his brother gone. Since Sam didn't get a chance to see the episode, he didn't know that Crowley was in there or that Dean woke up a demon. So Sam starts out not having any idea that his brother is a demon. True to the Winchester form, he's going to go through hell and high water to try to get his brother back, wherever his brother is. He doesn't know if he's been taken, or vanished, but he has his suspicions. Sam starts out with the same commitment to bring his brother back that he ended with in Season 9, when he was telling Dean, "Stay with me, I'm not going to let you go, I've got you. We'll make it through this." Obviously, he didn't, but he's still going to try and keep his promise.
That's good to hear! I love it when Sam is committed to helping Dean. But we've seen Sam try to find/save his brother before in seasons past, so how will his journey be different in Season 10?I feel like Sam finally knows and has accepted a lot of the things he's fought for years and years, i.e. his destiny, that Sam and Dean have both done things that maybe weren't completely forthright like when Sam was on demon blood or when Dean let Sam get possessed by an angel. I think Sam has made his peace with it and he realizes all those choices were all made with good intentions. So now we have Sam who just loves his brother and wants his brother to get well and be better. That's how this season will be different.
After a whole season of tolerating each other in a toxic relationship, Sam and Dean finally got to a good place at the end of the Season 9 finale. When Sam and Dean finally do reunite, will those good feelings carry over or will seeing Dean as a demon bring it all back to square one for Sam?I think seeing his brother as a demon will actually stiffen his resolve. He knows that it wasn't his brother's choice. When Sam does find out -- and he does find out, though he won't know how it happened, he'll just know that Dean is a demon -- he doesn't think it's Dean's fault. He doesn't know if it's the Mark of Cain, or Crowley, or something else entirely but when he sees what's happened with his brother, he feels as if someone has wronged his brother and it steels his resolve to fix things.

Zap2It sat down with Misha to find out more about Castiel's season 10 plight!
With all this talk about Demon Dean and Sam's hunt for his brother, we've been wondering: What's going on with Castiel when "Supernatural" Season 10 premieres this fall?
Since we've already grilled Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and executive producer Jeremy Carver all about the Winchesters, Zap2it went to the best Castiel source we could think of ... Misha Collins himself.
Since we've already grilled Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and executive producer Jeremy Carver all about the Winchesters, Zap2it went to the best Castiel source we could think of ... Misha Collins himself.
Check out our full Q&A with Collins below (and read all about why he doesn't think William Shatner will win GISHWHES this year here):
Zap2it: Where do we find Castiel at the start of Season 10?Misha Collins: We find Castiel beginning to try to help with the Dean-as-a-demon problem. But he will also be trying to grapple with his own issues because of his fading grace. Castiel is running on stolen angel grace and it's fading, which means he's getting weaker and weaker. His life force is draining out. Those are the two big issues that Castiel is confronted with when we find him in the beginning of Season 10.
Last week you tweeted a photo of you looking pretty beat up and bloody. Is Castiel's fading grace going to be taking a physical toll on him?Absolutely, yes.
Yikes. Even though you're a series regular, should we be worried that this could be the end of Castiel?Yes, you should be worried ... Isn't that a good tease? No, Castiel is not going to be dying in the beginning of the season or any of the scripts or stories that I have seen outlined in the first half of the season. To my knowledge, this won't mean his expiration. But he is getting closer and closer to expiration and weaker and weaker, and less and less of his angel powers are at his disposal.
How will Castiel react to finding out that Dean is a demon, and how will that affect their friendship? It's definitely driving a very, very large wedge between the two of them. I think that Castiel really doesn't see Demon Dean as Dean. He sees him as a monster that, one way or another, needs to go.
Jeremy Carver recently told me that Dean and Crowley are going to get closer as a result of Dean being a demon, so how is Castiel going to feel about that new relationship? That's a good question. I can tell you that Cas isn't really a fan of Dean becoming a demon. [laughs] And by extension, his fraternizing with Crowley. I think that Castiel's relationship with Crowley is certainly pretty strained. That said, everybody on the show has made deals with the devil, so to speak, over the years. Castiel is definitely conflicted about the character of Crowley. Can I just leave it at, "It's complicated"?
Sure, that sounds like a good summation. Near the end of last season, Castiel's storyline was separate from Sam and Dean's. Will that continue in the beginning of Season 10 or will we see them join up again? The storylines are going to be interwoven, but there's also going to be a strong, independent storyline for Castiel in Season 10. I think that that's actually true of all of the characters in the show. They all have their own, distinct arcs that are not necessarily interdependent [with] the other arcs. It's a very much more, I would say, personal season than seasons of the past. It feels like we're dealing less with the massive, epic stories of heaven and hell and more with the personal stories of the characters that we've all come to know and love on the show. Those personal stories, each character will have his own storyline.
Do you enjoy it more when you get to play that more personal side of Castiel, or do you enjoy it more when it's the big, epic storylines where everyone is together?I think that they both have their merits. My favorite is when those two are happening concurrently on the show. I think that's something that the show does a pretty good job of keeping us grounded in personal storylines. I think that's why the show has been so successful and has lasted for 10 seasons. At its core, it's this story of two brothers that are dealing with family issues that we can all relate to, and at the same time, they're dealing with epic mythology. The fusion of those two scales of storytelling is really compelling and keeps us engaged. I think if we were just watching a show that was about angels and demons and ghouls and goblins and didn't have that personal, relatable, character story to ground it in, the audience would have left a long time ago.
Speaking of how long the show has lasted, I'm so excited for the 200th episode this season now that Jeremy announced it's going to be "musical-ish." Any chance we'll get to see you sing in the episode?I have yet to see the script for the 200th episode, but I do know that Jeremy has said that it's "musical-ish." And I do know the fans have long been clamoring for a "musical-ish" episode. So I can't wait to read the script and find out exactly what I'll be doing.
How does it feel knowing that "Supernatural" has reached a milestone like 200 episodes? Not many shows can say they've made it that far. It's kind of surreal. You're right, not many shows at all can brag that they've made it that far. We were calculating recently and I think it's something like 20 television dramas of all time have made it that far. It's really amazing. I started working on the show in the first episode of Season 4, and I, as a rational human being, thought, "Well, this is probably pretty close to the end of the series. It maybe has another year left in it." That's typical of reasonably successful shows. They'll go to five seasons and maybe make it to 100 episodes, then they get syndicated and peter out. I don't think any of us imagined in Season 4 or Season 5 that we were going to make it to Season 10 and 200 episodes. I think that we're all really happy to have had this long run. It's really gratifying.
What are you most excited for fans to see from Season 10?I think that Season 10 has the potential of being a very emotionally impactful season and I think that the show is really getting to its roots of being very character-driven and about personal character struggles. I'm excited about that.

TV|Line gave us a quick summary of the panel:
Stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padaleckiand executive producer Jeremy Carverdid not seem ready to hang up their demon-hunting hats on Friday at the Television Critics Assoc. summer press tour in Beverly Hills.
“There’s so much story left to tell,” Carver said, giving props to the cast and crew. “It remains the hardest-working bunch I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. There’s no quit in anybody.”
For his part, Padalecki is on board to stick with the show as long as the quality remains up to par, and he has no doubt that it will under Carver’s direction, he noted.
“I truly do deeply care about this show and about Sam Winchester,” Padalecki said. “I don’t want him to be broken down, beaten down into something I don’t respect. And I respect this show. … We know the show enough and our character, if there’s an end coming, we’ll all see it and won’t have to push it. When it’s time to hang up the Sam Winchester hat, I’ll welcome that chapter.”
Added Ackles: “I think we’re all on the same page. We still get excited about it. That hasn’t tarnished in 10 years.” In fact, after the reading the Season 9 cliffhanger, he “got all giddy about it. As long as there’s that fulfillment, that excitement, then we’ll keep going.”
So what does the upcoming season have in store to keep the actors giddy? There will be some new characters — demons, angels, ghosts, werewolves — and of course, “a side of Dean we’ve never seen,” Carver teased.
“We’ll be staying with Demon Dean for more than one episode,” the EP revealed. And it’ll be a “different type of Demon Dean then you might expect.
Elsewhere, “while Sam is on the hunt for his brother, there is another mysterious character who is on the same hunt” and causes complications for brothers, continued Carver. On the heavenly front, “Castiel is very much in the picture at the beginning of Season 10,” although he’s “in danger of dying” due to his fading grace.
As for how Supernatural might one day wrap, Carver admitted it’s tricky because “I know that [creator] Eric Kripke always had an ending in mind.”
“I have an image…but I always want to keep room for happy accidents as well,” he added. “The show is continuing on beyond any of our wildest dreams, so I don’t think I want to limit ourselves. … All the writers, we have images in our heads, but our minds are wide open.”
[source]
Variety reported, the head of the CW, Mark Pedowitz, addressed the Supernatural spin-off, the retrospective special.
Pedowitz also addressed the “Supernatural: Bloodlines” pilot, which did not get picked up. “Creatively it did not quite get where we wanted it to go,” he said. “We have told (the creators) that we are very open to doing another spinoff. I would love to get a ‘Supernatural’ spinoff done. It’s a great franchise with a lot of legs.”
After the panel, Pedowitz also expanded on the upcoming “Supernatural” retrospective special, airing Mon., Oct. 6. “It’s a treat for the fans who’ve supported the show for the prior nine years; it’s taking you back all through the nine years; it’s giving you some commentary from the cast and the creator, Eric Kripke, and the executive producers. It’s fun.
EW had some more from the guys on the longevity of the show
Padalecki: “If the show quality diminishes, which I have no doubt that it will not in [Carver's] capable hands, but if the show ever reaches a spot where we get a phone call, ‘You know what guys, we feel what needs to be said has been said’ [then I'd stop] … I truly do deeply care about the show and about Sam Winchester. I’m 32 years old tomorrow and I spent 9 years of my life with him, and so I don’t want him to be broken down and beaten down into something that I end up not respecting. I respect this character and this show and the writers and my fellow actors and actresses. I think we know the show enough, our characters enough, that if there’s an end coming I think we’ll all see it and we don’t have to push it to the ‘I Love LA’ levels. I’ve got some kids now and a wife. I love my personal life very, very much and when it’s time to hang up the Sam Winchester hat, I’ll welcome that chapter.”
Carver: “In terms of how long the show can go, I think what pretty much impresses me most about not just these guys but the rest of the cast and the crew and the writers is it remains the hardest working bunch I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. And that starts with these guys and continues to Bob Singer, who would be here but he’s directing an episode right now. I hate to go all military now but there’s no quit in anybody. That starts with the stories and that continues on with the execution … There’s so much story left to tell, it’s sort of remarkable to think about given that we’re in season 129 already — no, we’re very excited to keep telling this story.”
Ackles: “I think we’re all on the same page. We still get excited by it and I think that that hasn’t tarnished in 10 years. And I remember getting the last script of season 9, the season finale, and I got all giddy about it. I was excited to see what happens in season 10. I think as long as there’s that fulfillment, that enjoyment, that excitement, then, yeah, we will keep going, as long as people are hanging in with us and are still entertained. We love these stories.”
As for what the ending might be … Does Carver have a specific ending in mind?
“I have to answer it per the usual — a little bit around the bend — just because I know that [creator] Eric Kripke always had an ending in mind [that] he hasn’t yet shared with me,” the writer-producer said. “And I have an image … but I always want to keep room for happy accidents as well. The show is continuing beyond any of our wildest dreams so I don’t think we want to limit ourselves. Just because I might have the perfect image in my head doesn’t mean that one of these guys can’t come up with something.”
To which Jared replied: “You realize you just invited us to write the ending, right?”

EOnline has some surprising news about the 200th episode!
Are Jensen Ackes and Jared Padalecki singing on Supernatural?!
The CW hit is tackling a major first in Season 10: At the 2014 Summer TCA Press Tour, showrunner Jeremy Carver revealed to E! News that Supernatural's 200th episode will be something of a "musical-ish" episode, which the longrunning series has never done. Feel free to take a moment to bask in the sheer awesomeness of this idea.
"I think it'll be one of the more amusing and engaging episodes we've done in a while. I think we can safely call this a meta episode," Carver previewed of the milestone outing, which will be the fifth episode of the new season. "We're going pretty meta. I would just describe it as something of a love letter to our fans and there will be songs."
Of course, we had some immediate follow-up questions:
Are Jensen and Jared singing? "I cannot comment any further than that. [Laughs.]"
Will there be dancing? "Potentially."
is it just one song? "There will be more than one song."
Will they be original songs or covers? "There will be a little of both. It's just going to be real fun and it's a real celebration of the show and particularly the fans of the show."
Of course, Supernatural wouldn't be the first TV series to tackle a musical episode: Grey's Anatomy was the most recent series to get its song and dance on to mixed reviews, but the most famous musical episode, of course, was Buffy the Vampire Slayer's "Once More With Feeling." Other series to do musical episodes include Scrubs, How I Met Your Motherand Fringe.
Supernatural's 10th season premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 7 on the CW.
Here's just a little bit from a great write up by our friend Laura Prudom at Variety
Ackles was also effusive in praising co-stars Misha Collins (Castiel) and Mark Sheppard (Crowley), who are series regulars in season ten. “[Mark's] on as a contract player now, we’ve got Misha fully contracted now, and I couldn’t be more excited. Personally I think it’s something we probably could’ve done a couple years ago, because I think they’re integral to the story and to the boys moving forward,” he said. “It definitely is going to make for some interesting storylines and arcs this year, having them both available to us full time, not having to share Mark with another series or having to share Misha with something else. The fact that they’re both on full time was welcome to us.”
Ackles is also directing the third episode of season ten, which filmed first to allow the star to prepare for the added workload. “They bumped mine up to the front of the list to allow me to come back a little early from my hiatus, do the prep, do the shoot, and now we’re starting our season premiere today — they kindly wrote Jared and I out of the first day so that we could come and spend the day with you,” he explained. “In preparing to direct the episode that I just directed, I went back and started picking up some episodes. I went all the way back to the pilot, watched a couple more in season one, season two, some of the big arc shows, the ones that move the mythology, the story along… I just wanted to get fired up again and it inspires me to go back and see how far we’ve come and what we’ve done.”
Playing Dean as a demon while directing was a particular challenge, Ackles admitted. “I’ve only had one episode to do it, and it was an episode I was directing, so my mind was a little scattered, but luckily I was overly prepared as a director so I was able to concentrate on the performance of demon Dean. It was fun for this episode, but the next two, I believe, are going to be even more entertaining.”

Beth: Will we see Sam or Dean get a love interest this season on Supernatural? While many women would still date a demon if he looked like Jensen Ackles, showrunner Jeremy Carver said fans shouldn't expect any major romances in Season 10. "I don't think you'll see an extended love interest," he said. "As in seasons past, you might see the boys come into town and have a brief something-something."
(a brief something-something....yessssssss!)

Can we just speculate on Jensen's hair for a moment?! Defintely looks longer and since they have already started shooting I'm thinking/ hoping/ dreaming his new demony side might not be so clean cut. Not that I don't love the clean cut look but holy moley....
ReplyDeleteAmy, thank you for pulling all this into one place and making it so easy to read. You've saved me hours of trawling through the interwebs!
ReplyDeleteNothing really to say except October, hurry the heck up already! :)
ReplyDeleteSo Demon!Dean will be more to Crowley than he can chew and he needs to ask help because of him? Rofl, who would have thought! :D
ReplyDeleteI think it's awesome and everything else they talk about. Can't wait for October either.

With the turn of events from the S9 finale, I was VERY apprehensive about what was going to happen with Dean and how they (writers') were going to treat him. While I am still very much unnerved that Dean is a Demon, I am a teeny tiny bit more relaxed about Dean's storyline for S10. This is a great compilation of all the news from yesterday. Thanks for putting it together for us.
ReplyDeleteJensen is such an impressive talent. He acts and directs with such commitment and dedication. I am so excited for S10. Bring it. Thanks for this compilation. Jensen will rock the demon role, I just know it.
ReplyDeleteAmy thanks so much for all the info, really getting excited for S10. Enjoy the con this weekend
